Funeral services will be 1 pm Saturday for Colonel Jan Lyons age 81 of Glencoe who died Wednesday. Reverend Bruce Gilliland will officiate. Burial will be in

Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge of services.

Colonel Jan Lyons (retired) was a graduate of Cherokee County High School and Gadsden State Community College, he served 38 years in The United States Army and Army Reserves and retired in 1990 as a Colonel. He obtained 8 college degrees during his military service. He served as a personal escort for Governor George Wallace and multiple Alabama Generals, He worked 30 plus years at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, served on Glencoe City Council for 4 years(1984-1988)and had his own business ”Mr. Fix It” and Lyons Heating and Air after retiring from Goodyear.

He is preceded in death by wife, Frances Walker Lyons, parents, Robert ”Bob” Lyons and Opal Lyons Brothers Lee Lyons, Bee Lyons and stepdaughter, Glenda White.

He is survived by wife Hazel Lyons, daughters Janet Hampton, Debra(Paul) Mitchell and Christi Lyons, grandchildren, Andrea Roberts , Ashley Hampton, Allen Hampton, Lance(Barbara) Kendal , Ashton Kendall, SPC Tyler(Rebecca) Wilbanks, Courtney Wilbanks, Denise(Donnie) Adcock, great grandchildren, Amber(Hunter) Amberson, Trey Adcock, Sierra, Bailey, Ian, Croix and Shelby. Sisters, Sara Jane, Dinah, Reba and Peggy and numerous nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be Alacare Hospice staff.

Special thanks to Alacare Hospice and Dr. H.B. Thompson.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 11 am until the time of service.
