One Dead Following Ambulance Accident in Front of Berry College in Rome / UPDATED

One person is dead, and two were left injured, after an ambulance accident in front of Berry College in Rome Friday morning.

Emergency officials were dispatched to the scene around 3:30am and Officer Chris Dehart with the Rome City Police Department, said the Puckett EMS Ambulance had been traveling southbound on Martha Berry Boulevard before it left the roadway traveled some 300 yards and struck two trees before coming to rest on its side.

The victim, Tony Patterson of Rome, was reportedly being moved from a Lafayette nursing home to Floyd ER for treatment; Patterson was 55 years of age; the driver of the ambulance and the medic in the back of the vehicle were both injured, and are currently listed in stable condition.

The cause of that accident remains under investigation.
