Collinsville Police Capture Man Wanted for Kidnapping; Victim Unharmed

Teamwork among law enforcement agencies and fast work by a local department brought a stop to what could’ve been a much worse situation on Friday afternoon.

At around 2:00pm the Collinsville Police Department was notified by Investigators with the Chattanooga Police Department that a woman named Brittany Boyd had been kidnapped in Chattanooga from a location behind a restaurant on Rossville Boulevard.  The assailant was identified as Mario McElrath.

Law enforcement had been able to track McElrath’s cell phone and it indicated that location as being an address in Collinsville, on Old North Valley Road.  Collinsville Police Officer Ada Hamilton and Reserve Officer Amanda McCormick went to that location where they found a white Mitsubishi Galant that had a Tennessee tag.  Upon making contact with the occupants of the car, it was quickly determined that the driver was Mario McElrath, and the passenger was Brittany Boyd.

Both were detained and brought to the Collinsville Police Department.

The Chattanooga Police Department was notified and a warrant was sent to the Collinsville Police Department for Kidnapping 2nd Degree against Mario McElrath.  He was transported to the DeKalb County Detention Center, where he awaits extradition back to Chattanooga.

The victim, Brittany Boyd, was unharmed.
