CNN cans Kathy Griffin, ends New Year’s Eve broadcast deal

Jeff Golden/WireImage(NEW YORK) — The fallout continues over Kathy Griffin’s beheaded-Donald-Trump photo.  CNN has now ended their New Year’s Eve broadcast deal with her.

“CNN has terminated our agreement with Kathy Griffin to appear on our New Year’s Eve program,” the cable news network tweeted Wednesday afternoon.

Griffin, who’s co-hosted CNN’s New Year’s Eve broadcast for years with Anderson Cooper, drew widespread condemnation for a photo shoot in which she’s pictured holding the bloodied, decapitated head of President Trump.

Cooper himself tweeted Tuesday night: “For the record, I am appalled by the photo shoot Kathy Griffin took part in. It is clearly disgusting and completely inappropriate.”

“Hey everybody, it’s me Kathy Griffin. I sincerely apologize,” Griffin said in a Twitter video Wednesday. “I am just now seeing the reaction to these images. I am a comic. I crossed the line. I moved the line then I crossed it. I went way too far. The image is way too disturbing. I understand how it offends people. It wasn’t funny. I get it.”

Reaction to the image was swift and came from both sides of the aisle.  Even the president himself finally weighed in, with Trump tweeting early Wednesday morning, “Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself. My children, especially my 11 year old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!”
