A Rainsville Police Officer received injuries after being involved in a two car crash at the intersection of Church Avenue and Alabama Highway 35 at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

According to the Rainsville Police Department, the officer left the parking lot of the police station and pulled out onto Highway 35 from Church Avenue with blue lights flashing responding to a call. That’s when witnesses say the driver of a truck apparently failed to properly yield the right of way of an emergency vehicle; witnesses say other vehicles yielded the officer.

The officer received non-life threatening injuries and was transported to DeKalb Regional Medical Center.

The accident is currently being investigated by the Alabama Department of Public Safety as it involved a police officer.
