Town Of Cedar Bluff Appoints New Fire Chief

The Town of Cedar Bluff introduced a new Fire Chief during Monday’s meeting of the Cedar Bluff Town Council. Captain/Paramedic Jason Stewart has been promoted to the position effective immediately.

Mayor Tammy Crane made that appointment after former Fire Chief Shawn Rogers resigned after being hired as the County EMA Director.

Chief Stewart has over 20 years of experience in Emergency Services and is well respected by each and every member of the department. Stewart is employed as a Paramedic/EMT with the DeKalb Ambulance Service working out of the Collinsville Station. He and his wife and children reside in Cedar Bluff. Stewart has been with the Cedar Bluff Fire Department since March of 2015.

His resume includes; Associates degree in Paramedicine, from Georgia Northwestern Technical College with honors. Alabama, Georgia, and Florida licensed paramedic, National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians- National Registry of Paramedics, American Heart Associations Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Healthcare Provider CPR & Pediatric Advanced Life Support, National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians- Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support , Advanced Medical Life Support. Grady Hospital/Miami Neuro Center – Advanced Stroke Life Support, Emergency Vehicle Operations Course, Alabama Fire College – Certified Volunteer Firefighter 160, Firefighter II, Hazmat A&O, Fire/EMS Instructor I.

In other business, the council approved an Ordinance authorizing participation in the annual Back to School Sales Tax Holiday and also adopted an Ordinance for DC Gas Franchise.

Lori Collins with the 20th Century Club addressed the council seeking permission for the club to host a Back to School Bash in the town park on August 5th which is the Saturday before school starts back on August 9th. The council unanimously granted approval for the event to take place which will feature a large variety of games and activities.

Mark Collins, President of the Weiss Lake Improvement Association was also on hand to give a brief update on the recent Crappie Rodeo which this year proved to be a tremendous success –

The council also approved the hiring of Mike Sewell as the town’s Auditor – Sewell will begin an audit of the town within the next couple of weeks.
