Jacksonville State Men’s Basketball Team Set to Compete in Conference Championships

The Jacksonville State men’s basketball team is set to compete in its fifth Ohio Valley Conference Basketball Championships in Nashville, Tenn., as the league’s No. 4 seed. The Gamecocks are scheduled to take on the winner of the No. 5 Southeast Missouri/No. 6 Tennessee State game on Thursday, March 2 at 6:30 p.m. at Municipal Auditorium.

It is just the Gamecocks’ fifth OVC Tournament berth since joining the league in 2003-04. The last time Jacksonville State qualified for a trip to the championships was the 2011-12 season. The No. 4 seeding ties for the program’s best OVC seed, achieved in 2005-06. JSU topped Eastern Kentucky 86-59 that season to advance to the semifinals.

Tickets for the OVC Championships are now available through the JSU Ticket Office.

In just one season as the head coach of the Gamecocks, Ray Harper has guided JSU to its second 17-win season since becoming an OVC affiliate. It ties the record for second-most wins in a single season since making the move to Division I (20-10, 2002-03). Harper locked up a .500+ record with Saturday’s win over Morehead State, keeping his perfect streak of 18 consecutive winnings seasons as a head coach intact.
