US Stocks Close Higher on President Trump's Tax Talk

iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — Wall Street closed higher Friday, a day after President Trump said an announcement for a new tax plan was coming soon.

The Dow gained 96.97 (+0.48 percent) to finish at 20,269.37.

The Nasdaq jumped 18.95 (+0.33 percent) to close at 5,734.13, while the S&P 500 finished at 2,316.10, up 8.23 (+0.36 percent) from its open.

Crude oil prices were over $54 a barrel; up 1.5 percent.

President Trump: In a meeting with leaders in the airline industry on Thursday, President Trump said a “phenomenal” tax plan was expected to be announced “over the next two or three weeks,” which piqued the interest of investors.

Winners and Losers: As Sears Holdings Corp works to tackle its debt, shares skyrocketed 26 percent after unveiling new details in its restructuring plan.

Disappointing first-quarter guidance that was below investors’ expectations caused Yelp Inc to tumble 14 percent.
