Domino's Launches Wedding Registry

Domino’s has launched a wedding registry. The Michigan chain is offering online gift cards so newlyweds can be treated to everything from food for a bachelor party to a post-wedding date night. Examples of packages include “Cater the Bachelorette Party” and “The Wedding Night.”

Pizza may not rival traditional wedding registry icons like Williams Sonoma, Macy’s or Bed Bath and Beyond but as weddings are a $58-billion-plus industry, there is room for diversity.

Domino’s spokeswoman Jenny Fouracre tells The Detroit Free Press, “Choosing wedding gifts can be a daunting process, especially if couples can’t agree on what to register for. Our registry aims to bring couples together over their shared love of pizza. We hear often from customers that Domino’s was a part of their big day, from proposals to after-hours meals at their wedding. We wanted to make it easier for people to ask for and receive something that they’ll really use.”

Gift cards on the website range from $20 to $100, but the newlyweds may order any combination of food they want.

Not everyone thinks it’s such a great idea, though. Wedding planner Nicola Wilson thinks it’s just a fad, saying, “I can’t really imagine my clients doing that. Maybe it’s a novelty for a year. Maybe it’s the same as giving a gift certificate to a nice restaurant, but it’s not the same…. Maybe it’s more for the budget market. I wonder what research they did to get that, what kind of focus groups.”

According to the company website,  Domino’s operates more than 12,600 pizza restaurants in 80 countries and delivers more than one million pizzas each day.
