A DeKalb County, Alabama man died from injuries sustained while at a job site in Floyd County, Georgia on Wednesday.
According to Deputy Coroner Daniel Helton – Ronald Ivey of Henagar, fell at least thirty feet from a skylight while helping a family member with the project at 4121 Lavender Drive, the location of the old Zartic plant.
Ivey’s nephew owns JC Metal Roofing, which was subcontracted for work on the job; Helton said Ivey was on the roof – when he stepped through a skylight and dropped straight onto a concrete floor at around 11:00am.
He reportedly died shortly after arriving at Floyd Medical Center.
Ivey, although not officially an employee of the company would apparently help his nephew out with work from time to time.
Many people from Cherokee County will remember Ivey from his many years of service as a UPS driver in this area.
