Senate Confirms Nikki Haley as US Ambassador to United Nations

Mark Wilson/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) — South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has been confirmed by the Senate as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

The Senate voted 96-4 to confirm President Donald Trump’s pick, making Haley the first woman and the fourth cabinet nominee to be confirmed in the new administration.

Democrats questioned her inexperience during her confirmation hearing, but Haley told Senators she rejected the idea of a proposed Muslim ban, she said the U.S. must continue to support NATO allies, and she split with the president’s position on Russia.

“Russia’s going to continue to be at the forefront of a lot of issues that we have to deal with,” Haley said at her hearing. “What I’ll tell you is Russia is trying to show their muscle.”
