US Stocks Close Mixed as Oil Prices Continue to Fall

iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — The Nasdaq reaches another record high, but the Dow Jones Industrial Average moves further away from the 20,000-point milestone.

The Dow slid 31.85 (-0.16 percent) to finish at 19,855.53.

The Nasdaq gained 20.00 (+0.36 percent) to close at 5,551.82, while the S&P 500 finished flat at 2,269.

Crude oil prices sunk 2 percent; under $51 a barrel on Tuesday.

Winners and Losers: Valeant Pharmaceuticals jumped 5 percent on news it’s selling its cancer unit, Dendreon, to the private Chinese company Sanpower Group Co, Ltd. The pharma company is also selling some of its skincare brands, including CeraVe and AcneFree, to L’Oreal. Both deal total more than $2 billion for Valeant.

Shares in Fitbit Inc. fell 6 percent after reaching a deal to acquire smartwatch company Vector Watch for an undisclosed price.
