Governor Bentley Announces Grants to Help with Job Searches and More

Governor Robert Bentley recently awarded grants totaling some $3.1 million for programs that will help low income residents take steps toward securing gainful employment.  Those Community Service Block Grants will enable 21 community action agencies across the state to assist low-income residents by providing a variety of services such as assistance with job searches, through short-term skill employment classes and by offering transitional housing, summer youth programs, financial literacy programs and emergency food and shelter.

The Community Action Agency of Northeast Alabama, which serves Cherokee County along with Blount, DeKalb, Jackson, Marshall, and St. Clair counties, has received $240,413 as part of their portion of the funding to be distributed locally.
