JaysonPhotography/iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — A day of small gains on Wall Street helped stocks bounce back from a two-day stumble.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average inched closer to the 20,000 milestone, gaining 14.93 to a close of 19,933.81.

The Nasdaq finished the session at 5,462.69, up 15.27 from its open. The S&P 500 climbed 2.83 to a close of 2,263.79.

The Commerce Department reported today that new home sales increased last month at the fastest pace since July.

Fiat Chrysler is continuing to alert the owners of 50,000 vehicles that may have a problem with the sensor connector in the engine. The automaker issued a worldwide recall of the vehicles earlier this week, saying engines could stall while in use.
