iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — On Friday, Mylan announced a $300 generic version of EpiPen that is set to hit pharmacies by next week.
“Americans are rightfully concerned about rising drug prices,” Mylan CEO Heather Bresch said in a news release. “While it is important to understand the outdated and complex system that determines what someone pays for medicine in the U.S., hardworking families don’t need an explanation, they need a solution.”
Mylan has taken heat since august for raising the price of EpiPens to $608.61, a $93.88 increase in the last ten years.
“Making quality medicines and making them accessible to patients has been our mission since Mylan began in West Virginia more than 55 years ago,” Bresch said. ” We will continue to do our part to fight for changes that will make a difference in the lives of patients and remain deeply committed to serving patients in the severe allergy community by working to ensure that everyone who needs an EpiPen has access to one.”
Mylan has also launched a patient purchase option of $300 per two-pack, and savings cards for eligible patients with health insurance. Mylan also said it will continue to offer its patient assistance program to support uninsured patients.
