US Stocks Close Higher as Investors Await Interest Rate Decision

iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — Wall Street finished in the green Tuesday as investors continued to wait for the Federal Reserve’s decision on interest rates.

The Dow gained 114.78 (+0.58 percent) to finish at 19,911.21.

The Nasdaq jumped 51.29 (+0.95 percent) to close at 5,463.83, while the S&P 500 finished at 2,271.72, up 14.76 (+0.65 percent) from its open.

Crude oil remained flat with prices hitting under $54 a barrel.

Winners and Losers:
Valeant Pharmaceuticals gained about 1 percent after announcing a leadership shake-up with the exits of three top executives. The pharma company’s stock has strugged with its drug-pricing scandal this year.

Shares in Anheuser-Busch InBev jumped over 1 percent on Asahi Group Holdings Ltd.’s announcement that it would buy five Eastern European beer brands from the brewer.

Federal Reserve: Traders are awaiting the outcome of the U.S. central bank’s two-day policy meeting. It is widely believed the Fed will raise its benchmark rate with an announcement expected on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
