Drew Angerer/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Donald Trump plans to name Goldman Sachs president and chief operating officer Gary Cohn the director of the White House National Economic Council, the Trump transition announced Monday, bringing the number people in his inner circle with ties to the Wall Street firm to three.
“As my top economic advisor, Gary Cohn is going to put his talents as a highly successful businessman to work for the American people,” Trump said in a statement. “He will help craft economic policies that will grow wages for our workers, stop the exodus of jobs overseas and create many great new opportunities for Americans who have been struggling.”
Cohn has spent 25 years at Goldman Sachs.
Incoming White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon, who was Trump’s campaign chairman, worked at Goldman and Steve Mnuchin, Trump’s selection for treasury secretary, was a partner at the firm.
Cohn, who will also serve as an assistant to Trump on economic policy, will not have to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
