During the planning session held prior to Monday’s meeting of the Cherokee County Commission, commissioners heard from Diane Glenn with the East Alabama Regional Planning & Development Commission.
Glenn spoke on behalf of the Cherokee County Parks & Recreation Board who is applying for a grant for improvements to be done at Cherokee Rock Village.
If awarded, the monies will be used to construct several RV sites at the park in addition to the construction of a 20X30, 600 square foot observation deck at the facility.
Glenn also spoke on behalf of CED Mental Health who is looking to apply for a grant for the purchase of two new fans.
The commission also heard from Steve Forehand who spoke on behalf of the Lake Martin Association in regards to possible litigation between the Lake Martin Association and the Corp of Engineers and how the case could affect Weiss Lake.

In other business, the commission approved excess land redemptions, adopted the 2017 County Commission Holiday Schedule and adopted the Cherokee County Animal Shelter Procedures manual as presented.
The next regular meeting of the Cherokee County Commission will be Monday, December 12, at 10:00 a.m. in the County Administrative Building.
