Overwhelming Number Of Voters Turnout For General Election On Tuesday

electon_resultsAn overwhelming majority of Cherokee County voters took to the poles on Tuesday to let their voice be heard in the 2016 General Election.

Of  the 16,349 registered voters in the county – 10,673 cast ballots which equates to almost 65% of registered voters in Cherokee County.

In the race for local offices, Incumbent Marcie Foster will retain her position as District #3 Cherokee County Commissioner defeating challenger Jennifer Mackey by a margin of 6,527 to 3,739.

Cherokee County Superintendent of Education Mitchell Guice has won his bid for reelection defeating his challenger Mike Welsh 6,548 to 3,849.

Cherokee County School Board member Mark Gossett has been defeated by former Centre City Councilman Derrick Wheeler for Place #2 on the Cherokee County Board of Education.

Wheeler defeated Gossett by a total tally of 6,210 to 4,046.

In the race for Cherokee County Board of Education Place #1 the challenger Kathy Mobbs garnered more votes than any other candidate in the county soundly defeating the incumbent Lynn Rochester by a margin of 6,883 to 3,340.
