A Piedmont woman has been charged with Identity Theft, after allegedly stealing mail, in an attempt to gain personal information.

Calhoun County Sheriff Matthew Wade said that 47 year old Kimberly Marion Devoe faces a number of charges after stealing mail from an estimated 35 individuals

Investigators became aware of the situation, when a woman reported that she had received an e-mail from Wells Fargo indicating that she had opened a new account at the bank which she had not.  However, it appeared that the woman’s personal information had been used.

Wade said it was learned that Devoe, who worked as an independent contractor delivering newspapers for the Anniston Star, had been stealing mail out of mailboxes.

Devoe is currently being held in the Calhoun County Jail awaiting setting of bond.

Other charges could be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
