Instagram Enters Retailing Space

Instagram(MENLO PARK, Calif.) – Social media app Instagram is beginning to test a new way for its users to learn more about the items they view within a post on the platform.

In order to test this new experience, Instagram has teamed up with 20 U.S.-based retail brands including Kate Spade, JackThreads and Warby Parker. These brands will share posts that have more depth, making it easier for users to review the items, in addition to learning about and considering the items that interest them.

Each post will have a “tap to view” icon at the bottom left of a photo. When tapped, a tag will appear on up to five products in the post. Once a tag is selected, a new detailed view of the product will open. If the consumer taps the “Shop Now” link from the product details view, they will go directly to that product on the brand’s website.
