The sights, smells, and sounds of the German traditions will be found at the Summerville Depot on Saturday, October 22. Summerville Main Street is set to present an Oktoberfest featuring Oktoberfest beers, a German feast, musical performances, shopping, and more. Hours for the festival will be from 12:00 noon – 7:00 p.m. Admission and parking is free for this event.
Oktoberfest will include traditional local foods, along with an array of Oktoberfest traditions such as: bratwurst, beer cheese soup, barvarian pretzels, German Chocolate, strudels, other German inspired foods, artisans, and a bier garten featuring variety of brews. Festival attendees are encouraged to sport German wear and brush up on the chicken dance for extra fun.
This event is part of the “Steam Into Summerville Railroad Days” celebration, held in honor of the fall arrivals of the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum Passenger Trains. Weekly train arrivals during October – mid November are scheduled for 12:45 p.m. The Summerville Turntable can be observed in action during each arrival.
To close out the festival, Backwater Still will be in concert on the back deck of the Summerville Depot. Based out of Chattanooga, Tennessee, the band is known for their blend of kickin’ country, southern rock rhythm and blues, added with swagger, a touch of humor, and a truckload of talent. The concert is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. In the event of rain the concert will be held inside the depot.
