A farm accident claimed the life of a Cherokee County man Monday morning.
At approximately 9:30, emergency personnel were dispatched to a location on County Road 14, some six miles out of Centre, in regard to a report of a grain cart falling on a man.
It appeared that the partially filled cart, which is slightly smaller than a dump truck bed, had shifted and crushed the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene by Cherokee County Coroner Jeremy Deaton.
The cart had to be removed through the use of a wrecker truck.
According to Deaton, the victim, identified as 32 year old Centre resident Daniel Leon Porter, died as a result of severe blunt force trauma to the head.
Those responding to the accident scene included the Ellisville Fire Department, Cherokee EMS, the Cherokee County Rescue Squad and Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
