Firefighters Battling Large Woods Fire Burning In The Flats Woods / UPDATED

wildfire-1

The Georgia Forestry Commission and a number of other agencies, spent much of the day on Thursday working to contain a wildfire near Cave Spring.

That blaze involved around 150 acres on private land in the Jefferson Road area.

Tractors were brought in to plow firebreaks around the perimeter with the fire being about 75% contained by 7:30 that evening; firefighters had to scramble around 4:00pm, when the fire jumped several breaks due to high winds.

The fire also managed to spread into Cherokee County late in the day with both an Alabama Forestry Commission unit and the McCord’s Crossroads Fire Department responding to the scene to help bring the blaze under control.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
