County Engineer Corey Chambers And District 3 Commissioner Marcie Foster Recognized

Cherokee County Engineer Corey Chambers along with District 3 Commissioner Marcie Foster were recognized during Monday’s meeting of the Cherokee County Commission – Chambers has completed his program in County Engineering Administration, Commissioner Foster has been selected as the District 3 representative on the Association of County Commissions of Alabama Board of Directors.

Corey.CommissionIn other business, the Commission approved excess land redemptions to T. Mallory or Margaret Whorton in the amount of $202.83 and to Tommy & Jean Baswell in the amount of $42.97, $43.07 and $43.08.

Cherokee County Museum Director Kathy Marko was nominated by the Commission to serve on the Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourism Association for the term October 2016 through September 2018.

The Commission also approved the appointment of Paul D. McDonald as new Chief Deputy Corner at the recommendation of County Corner Jeremy Deaton, McDonald will be officially sworn in later today.

During the planning session held just prior to the meeting commissioners met with Craig Bryan with EC Waste and Pamela Swain with the Cherokee County Health Department to continue to discuss ways to reduce the number of individuals receiving exemptions for garbage collection services, following some lengthy discussion Bryan and Swain will be looking into ways of revamping the application in addition to shortening the time period for exemptions and will meet with commissioners again at a later date.

Laure Clemons with Extended Family for kids also addressed commissioners to request additional funding for the program for the new upcoming fiscal year and Parks & Recreation Board Chairperson Leann Hill and Library Director Elaine Henry both presented proposed budgets and request for their respective departments.
