A fire broke out at the Budget Inn located on Martha Berry Highway Wednesday afternoon.

According to Rome Fire Department Battalion Chief Gene Proctor “The fire is being investigated by the fire marshal’s office as a possible intentional fire. The female in the room reported the fire to the manager’s office.” When the fire department arrived on the scene, there was heavy smoke that extended up into the attic space. The fire caused extensive damage to two rooms, but it is repairable.

The flames seemed to cause the situation to heat up.

“While dealing with the female that came out of that room, she became irate and verbally abusive. She had to be taken into custody by the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department and was taken to jail,” said Proctor.

There were no injuries reported.
