Alabama Governor Robert Bentley announced Wednesday morning that he has plans to call a special session of the Legislature in order to consider a proposal for a lottery to help solve Alabama’s on-going problem with funding state services
Bentley stated that a lottery would raise around $225 million a year, and he would propose applying that revenue to a variety of General Fund programs including services for children the mentally ill, law enforcement and “those in the most need.”
Bentley did not give a date for the session.
His press secretary told media outlets that it would likely be announced later this week.
