A Rome police officer in the motorcycle division was hospitalized following an accident that occurred Tuesday afternoon, at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Highway and Martha Berry.
Long-time Motorcycle Officer Mike Simmons, was en route to a report of an accident on 2nd Avenue involving injuries, when he collided with a van; Officer Simmons was still wearing a high-visibility traffic vest that he had on while working a wreck involving an overturned log truck on Martha Berry Highway and had his lights and siren on when the accident occurred
Simmons was transported to Redmond Regional Medical Center, where he is listed in stable condition and has been scheduled for surgery.
The wreck remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
