Strong storms rumbled across Cherokee County on Saturday night, adding some of nature’s own fireworks to several fourth of July celebrations taking place around the area, including Liberty Day in Cedar Bluff.

At 10:30, the National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Warning for northeast portions of the county with the heaviest concentrations of rainfall staying north of Highway 35 going toward the Georgia state line, affecting the areas of Little River, Gaylesville and Blanche.

High winds left behind a number of downed trees, especially in the Broomtown community – there were also reports of brief hail in some areas.

Rainfall amounts totaled more than two inches, in under an hour, in the northern portion of the county.

The Flash Flood Warning remained in effect until 11:45pm.
