Portions of Cherokee County Left in the Dark on Monday Evening / UPDATED

Parts of Cherokee County were without power for a brief period of time Monday night.

Portions in the southern and western portions of Centre were affected starting around 8:30pm with power being restored to everyone prior to midnight; in many locations power was out for less than two hours.

According to Sarah Bright with the Cherokee Electric Co op, the outage was due to a jumper burning off at the breaker in the East Centre substation.

Co op crews were immediately dispatched to begin repair work following the first calls, and Bright says everyone’s patience while repairs were being made is greatly appreciated.
