Mr. Timothy Lloyd Sanders, age 68, of Centre, Alabama passed away Sunday, May 29, 2016 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.

Mr. Sanders was born in Muskegon, Michigan on July 15, 1947, son of the late Rev. Lloyd C. Sanders and Eleanor Marie Gephart Sanders. He was raised in Middleville, Michigan, moving to this area in 1976. Mr. Sanders held a Bachelor of Arts Degree, a Master’s of Education Degree; was a humor columnist for the Centre Post, and prior to ill health, he had been employed with the state of Alabama as a Vocational Rehabilitation Officer. Mr. Sanders was a member and past president of the Centre Civitan Club, was a recipient of the Green Eye Shade Award, securing that award on three separate occasions, twice for first place and once for second place. He most recently was awarded the 2016 Alabama Press Association Award for the best humorist in Alabama. He studied art and music and loved to paint and play the coronet. He loved to sing and write and loved all animals. He loved to collect arrowheads and rocks. He was of the Baptist Faith and was a devoted husband and father. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sanders was preceded in death by a brother, Dick Knoll.

Mr. Sanders is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marilyn Sanders, to whom he married on September 16, 1967; sons, Stephen Sanders of Piedmont, AL and David Sanders of Centre; brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Mary Knoll, sisters, Dorothy (Ivory) Jordan, Marva (Jerry) Turner and Darlene Carr; sister-in-law, Carline Knoll; sisters-in-law by marriage Elaine (Billy) Brooks, Annette (John) Currier, and Nancy (Jeff) Burkhalter; best friend, Jim Pleger; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In accordance with his and his family’s wishes, Mr. Sanders will be cremated and the family will hold a memorial service at a later date.
