County Commission Recognizes Coach Ricky Austin & Spring Garden Lady Panthers

On Monday the Cherokee County Commission opened their regular meeting by recognizing both the Spring Garden Lady Panthers Basketball team and their coach Ricky Austin for their recent accomplishments by adopting Resolutions in their honor.

Coach Austin expressed his appreciation for the gesture by the county –

The commission also approved excess land redemptions to T. Mallory or Margaret Whorton in the amount of $321.79, Darrell Baker in the amount of $72.45 and to Tommy & Jean Baswell in the amount of $462.94.

A job posting for the position of a Public Transportation Driver was also approved; this is due to a retirement of the current driver. The commission also approved a request from the Town of Cedar Bluff for a quick claim deed for a parcel of land located inside the Cedar Bluff Town Park and a agreement for service with the East Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission for the 53-11 Rural Transportation Federal Grant Fund allocation in the amount of $17,183 was also approved, that amount is the county’s match for the grant.

The commission has also agreed to purchase security system repairs and upgrades for the Library from Surveillance Concepts in the amount of $2,011. 31.

A contract to purchase the former location of Nichols Animal Hospital on the Piedmont Highway was approved for the amount of $100,000 that property will now officially become the Cherokee County Animal Shelter.
