Things went downhill in a hurry for the Georgia man enjoying an afternoon motorcycle ride here in Cherokee County on Wednesday afternoon – when his bike collided with a deer, just outside of Gaylesville.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency accident report the accident took place on Highway 35 about one mile south of Gaylesville near County Road 92, when the deer ran out in front of the bike being driven by 69 year old Rome resident Benjamin Vann.
The deer was killed in the collision, with Vann being injured.
At first, it appeared Vann would be air-lifted for treatment; however it was determined that he would instead be taken to Floyd Medical Center via ambulance. Emergency personnel at the scene told WEIS Radio News it appeared the victim had suffered a dislocated shoulder.
He was still being checked out at the time, and whether or not he suffered any other serious injuries remains unclear.
The man’s bike, a 2008 Honda, received significant damage. That accident occurred shortly before 1:00pm.
