Cherokee County Association Of Firefighters Receives Grant To Help Complete New Radio System

DSCN0188Through a cooperative effort of the Coosa Valley Resource, Conservation and Development Council and Senator Phil Williams, Senator Gerald Dial and State Representative Richard Lindsey, the Cherokee County Association of Volunteer Firefighters has received crucial grant funding to help in the expenses of the newly installed Project 25 Radio Communications System in the county.

State Senator Phil Williams:

During the Association’s regular business meeting held at the Cedar Bluff Fire Station on Monday night Eddie May Executive Director of Coosa Valley RD&D along with Norman Burton Field Representative for the Cosby Company, Senator Williams and Representative Lindsey presented members of the association with a check in the amount of $23,500.

The new system is a 700/800 Mhz Digital Trunking Radio System built to the standards of the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) Project 25 (P25). The system is expected to bring many benefits to Public Safety Communications in Cherokee County including, but not limited to, more reliable communications, better radio coverage, increased capacity, and interoperability.

McCords Fire Chief Rich Lindsey, who is also a member of the Cherokee County Radio Communications Committee said that without this grant, the entire project would have failed to even exist.

Chief Lindsey said that on behalf of the Firefighters Association he greatly appreciates the cooperative efforts from all of those that have provided assistance in helping make this project successful.

The Coosa Valley RC&D Council covers an eleven county area located in east central Alabama which includes the following counties: Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Etowah, Randolph, St. Clair, Talladega and Tallapoosa. The office is located in Oxford, Alabama.
