The Cedar Bluff Community Center is undergoing an extensive facelift due to the discovery of some long-term damage that has taken its toll on the facility.

Recently, the building was closed to the public while the town had an engineer inspect the facility after it was discovered one of the exterior brick walls was bowing out, after further inspection it was found that there were no brick ties holding the bricks in place and it was highly recommended at that point that the wall be completely replaced.

In addition, there is extensive electrical repairs that need to be done as well as plumbing and the addition of a drop ceiling. All of these repairs are necessary in order to bring the building up code according to the Towns Building Inspector Calvin Walling.

During a special called meeting of the town council on Monday, the council approved for the necessary repairs to be done with the money coming from the town’s Capital Improvement Fund.

In an effort to save money, the town is using in house labor for the majority of the work.

Also during the meeting, Council members were presented with a proposed Lodging Tax Ordinance for consideration in the near future, the ordinance proposes a 3% tax on lodging which is in line with other municipalities in the county, last month the Town of Leesburg also adopted the same ordinance.
