Report From WRGA, Rome|

It appears as though alcohol was involved in a wreck last Friday on Alabama Highway.

According to Floyd County Police reports, Juan Martinez of Gadsden, Alabama crossed the center line and struck a tractor-trailer near the Alabama State Line.

The impact broke the steering gear on the tractor-trailer and the driver lost control.

The rig traveled across both lanes and caught fire. Witnesses told police that they saw Martinez’s Mitsubishi Gallant traveling erratically prior to the wreck.

Another witness said they smelled alcohol on Martinez’s breath following the wreck and there were three unopened cans of beer in the passenger side floorboard of his car.

Martinez is facing charges of DUI, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, no proof of insurance and driving while unlicensed.
