Shoreline Management & Cherokee County Park Board Exploring Idea For New Park Near Leesburg

ParkBoard4 ParkBoard3The Cherokee County Parks & Recreation Board and Alabama Power Shoreline Management are exploring the idea of developing a new park in the Slackland area on County Road 20 just off of Highway 411 South near the dike.

On Monday, members of the Park Board along with Dennis Trammell with Alabama Power and Cherokee County Engineer Corey Chambers met and walked the proposed location to get a visual idea of exactly what Alabama Power is proposing.

This project, according to Trammell will initially be funded by Alabama Power they simply need the use of the counties man power and equipment. The plans for the park propose several primitive camping sites, a public fishing area in addition to a picnic and swimming area.

The park board will take the information gathered from the Monday and further analyze all options and then make a decision as to whether they can afford the project, Alabama Power will have to lease the property to the board and it will ultimately be up to them to maintain the facility.
