A Gadsden man is in custody following a standoff this morning in Rainbow City.
Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin said dispatchers received a 911 call at 8:13 a.m. at Susan’s Daycare on Alabama 77 in Rainbow City.
Callers said a white man was acting strangely and “speaking of things that did not make any sense.”
Rainbow City police responded, but the man threatened to take his own life with a knife.
Within minutes, Etowah County deputies, Gadsden police, Southside police, Rainbow City fire and the Etowah County Joint Special Operations Group responded.
After negotiations, the man put the knife down and was taken into custody at about 9:14 a.m. He was taken to Gadsden Regional Medical Center for evaluation.
