Two Cherokee County law enforcement officers have teamed up to form an organization designed to better educate the public on how to properly use and treat a firearm. Matt Peek and Joe Johnson are Instructors for the organization known as 03 Defense which offers affordable low cost but high quality training for the average citizen.
The classes range from basic firearms to self defense and everything in between.
Instructor Joe Johnson has 15 years of law enforcement and military experience in addition to being a Combat Veteran, he served in the United States Marine Corps from 1999-2005, served in the Marine Corps Infantry and special boats unit with 5 deployments and is EWTG PAC Special Operations capable qualified.
Johnson is also a United States Marine Corp Martial Arts and Firearms Instructor. and is specialized in Close Quarters Battle and Amphibious operations.
He served as a Narcotics agent with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department from 2006-2013 and is currently with the Leesburg Police Department, he also serves as Team leader and Instructor with the County Wide Special Response Team.
Instructor Matt Peek has 15 years of Law enforcement and military experience and is a Combat Veteran who served in the United States Marine Corps from 2001-2006, he also served in the Fleet Anti-terrorism Security Team Company serving in the Amphibious Reconnaissance boat unit.
Matt is Specialized in Close Quarters Battle and Amphibious operations.
He served as a Deputy Sheriff from 2006-2015 with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office as a County investigator and the departments training officer and is currently with the Centre Police Department as a Narcotics Investigator.
He is a Team leader and Instructor for the County Wide Special Response Team (S.R.T) and an active shooter instructor in addition to a Run,Hide,Fight Instructor and a Volunteer part time instructor for the Northeast Alabama Law enforcement Academy.
The courses offered by 03 Defense range anywhere from, $25-$75 depending on which course you take.
