Website Making Confidential Information Taken From JSU Available Illegally

Hacker 1Jacksonville State University has confirmed that they’re investigating a website, which they will not identify saying the site has been illegally making protected information available to anyone who finds the site.

JSU officials state that the information was apparently stolen from the school database and users are being allowed to search for students’ personal information including photographs addresses, birth dates, student ID numbers and more.

The site apparently has information on some former students, faculty and staff members as well.

Those behind the website have reportedly sent a message to the Anniston Star saying: “The website is intended to be a safe yet intriguing lesson to universities and other academic institutions to value their students’ personal information. We live in an age where records that were once on paper protected by security guards are now digitized protected by nothing. I believe among the responsibilities of any organization that one belongs to is the protection of their subjects’ personal information. Jacksonville State University among others have failed to honor this responsibility.”

All students are being encouraged to change their student log-ins and email passwords.

The matter remains under investigation.
