Call it car trouble.

Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit Interim Commander Randall Johnson said an Albertville man was arrested after an overheated vehicle led to the discovery of drugs and a weapon.

24 year old Christopher Haney was arrested Wednesday following a traffic stop in Attalla at the intersection of Clanton Street and Gaines Street.

Johnson said Haney stepped from his vehicle and said it was overheating. The Etowah County deputy who stopped him spotted a box of 9 mm ammunition on the dashboard of his vehicle.

After questioning Haney, the deputy retrieved a 9 mm pistol from Haney’s overall pocket, which he did not have a valid pistol permit to carry as a concealed weapon.

Inside the vehicle, the deputy found methamphetamine, a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Haney faces charges of drug possession, second degree possession of marijuana and carrying a concealed weapon. He has been released on $4,500 bond.
