DeKalb County authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred a short time after midnight Tuesday.

According to Sheriff Jimmy Harris, his office received a BOLO for a red Ford Ranger truck out of Jackson County possibly connected with a shooting incident there.

Deputies quickly located the vehicle in question near the Ider Church of Christ on Highway 75; at that point deputies along with officers from the Ider and Henagar police departments searched the area around the church including a hay field behind the building.

During that search, they discovered the body of a white male, suffering a gunshot wound to the head. Investigators were called to the scene and the man’s body was transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science, where a positive ID will be made.

Sheriff Harris said the investigation into the matter is on-going.
