Cherokee County Probate Judge and Commission Chairman Kirk Day served as the featured speaker for the most recent meeting of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, and in the space of just over 20 minutes delivered a concise yet comprehensive overview of where the county currently stands on a number of issues:

He added that according to the latest information released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics the unemployment rate for Cherokee County is a flat 5%, better than the numbers posted in the surrounding counties and better than the statewide average.

Other topics of discussion included budget considerations, such as dealing with the ongoing deficit at the jail; implementation of a new pay plan for the county, in addition to improved job opportunities locally, and recruitment for new industry and business; improvements at the airport and its role in attracting people to the area; ATRIP Projects which have allowed the county to make great strides in regard to paving roads across the county, and there was also discussion of the Highway 411 paving or unfortunate lack thereof; among other issues.
