A Southside woman is charged with having sex with a student.
28 year old Andrea Elliott Means was employed as a teacher with the Etowah County Board of Education when the alleged act happened in March 2013.
The sexual act did not occur on school grounds. Means is charged with one count of a school employee engaging in a sex act or deviant sexual intercourse with a student under the age of 19 years old. The charge is a felony.
Etowah County Superintendent Alan Cosby said that Means’ resignation was accepted by the Etowah County Board of Education during an emergency meeting last Friday, and further that they are fully cooperating with the Sheriff’s Office and District Attorney’s Office in this case.
Sheriff Entrekin said that this type of ridiculous behavior is completely uncalled for by someone who was trusted by the community to teach our kids saying “her job was to educate and encourage students to pursue their dreams and goals, not use them for personal pleasure.”
Means was booked into the Etowah County Detention Center and later released on $10,000 property bond.
