Chattooga County Family Seeks Information About Drowning Victim

The family of a Chattooga County man that drowned in flood waters in Gordon County the weekend following Christmas is looking for answers as to why his call for help to the Gordon County 911 never resulted in a dispatch of emergency personnel.

Sixty-four year old George Paul Treadaway of Summerville placed a call to Gordon County 911 around 2 PM on Saturday, December 26th, but no one began to look for Treadaway until around 9 PM that night.  The Gordon County Sheriff’s Department reported Treadaway missing at 11:30 PM on that Saturday saying that he had last been seen in the vicinity of Spring Valley in Calhoun in a black Toyota Camry.

Gordon County Attorney Jim Ledbetter released a statement saying that Gordon County 911 received a call from Treadaway at 1:59 PM on Saturday, December 26th but the dispatcher lost connection with the caller.  The dispatcher then called Treadaway back, and he told the dispatcher that his car was filling up with water, but he didn’t know his location. Upon later review of the call, Treadaway did state that he could see chicken houses and that he had turned off of a four-lane highway.

The dispatcher attempted to locate Treadaway by tracking his cell phone, but the cell phone provider expressed low confidence in the accuracy of the location data. The E911 dispatcher was able to determine the address was not located near any water source and did not match the limited information given by Treadaway.

Treadaway’s family reported him missing on Saturday night. His flooded car was found by Georgia State Patrol divers on Monday, December 28th, who extricated Treadaway’s body from the vehicle.
