Sheriff’s Office Deputies Arrest Two on Drug Charges After Chase

Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver reports that deputies arrested two people, on Saturday, following a brief high-speed chase east of Centre in the area of County Road 34.

Deputies attempted to pull over a vehicle for a traffic violation but the driver had refused to stop and instead attempted to flee.  Over the course of that pursuit the passenger tossed the illegal drugs out the window.

After stopping the vehicle, deputies were able to locate the illegal substances along the side of the road.

Illya Stephond Henderson and Erby Luther Shooks, both 47 years of age, and both of Centre were arrested on multiple charges.

Henderson stands charged with the unlawful possession of controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and first degree unlawful possession of marijuana – along with resisting arrest and attempting to elude a police officer.

Shooks is charged with unlawful possession of controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, first degree unlawful possession of marijuana, tampering with physical evidence.

They currently remain in the Cherokee County Detention Center on bond of $8,500 each.
