Calhoun County authorities state two women died in a house fire occurring during the early morning hours of Wednesday.
Chief Deputy Matthew Wade said that fire happened about 1:30am at 521 Reneau Street in Choccolocco.
The Quad Cities Fire Department responded but the structure was already fully involved.
Residents said they were awakened by the smoke from a window air conditioning unit, but two “bed ridden” elderly women were still inside.
Wade said the two women were later found inside, deceased.
Coroner Pat Brown identified the women as Emilee Diane Brock, 65, and Daisy Bell Haynes, 91. Both died of smoke inhalation and thermal burns.
The Sheriff’s Office and State Fire Marshal are investigating the fire, but it is not considered suspicious.
