Two Rome women have been arrested, charged with taking advantage of the compassion of others.
According to arrest reports at the Floyd County Jail, 69-year old Nancy Kay Bennett and 53-year old Theresa Lynne Duffey, both of a West Big Indian Trail address, obtained $350 in cash from elderly victims.
The women reportedly lied to the victims by telling a sob story about their son being killed in Florida and they needed money for travel and meals so they could pay their last respects.
The women then used the donated money to purchase narcotics.
Now they don’t need gas and their meals are free, as both Bennett and Duffey are booked in the Floyd County Jail on charges of theft by deception and exploitation or elder persons.
