BREAKING|Inmate Who Died At The Cherokee County Jail On Monday Identified

According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, the inmate who died in the Cherokee County Detention Facility on Monday has been identified as 58 year old Michael Lee Caldwell of Benton Missouri.

Caldwell was discovered unresponsive in the medical infirmary at approximately 2:00 p.m. by corrections staff.

Emergency medical care was administered, but all attempts to revive Caldwell were unsuccessful.

Caldwell was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead by Cherokee County Coroner Dr. Jeremy Deaton.

According to Dr. Deaton, Caldwell apparently hung himself with a bed sheet.

The incident is being investigated by the State Bureau of Investigation with assistant from the Cherokee County Major Crimes Unit, and Jacksonville State University’s Center for Applied Forensics.
