Three Vehicle Accident Involving School Bus Wednesday Afternoon

Bus Wreck 100One child was treated for minor injuries following a three-vehicle wreck involving a Floyd County school bus on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Trooper First Class Jeremy Battle with the Georgia State Patrol, the bus was making a stop westbound on Shorter Avenue in front of Rome Cinemas.

A Ford Explorer, traveling east had stopped for the bus, which had activated its lights and stop sign, and was struck from behind by a Dodge mini-van. After the impact, the Explorer continued east, traveling off the right shoulder, striking a tree. The mini-van veered to the left, crossed the center lane and struck the bus head on.

Three occupants in the mini-van and the driver and a passenger in the Explorer were taken to the hospital via EMS.

None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.

According to officials with the Floyd County School System there were 30 kids from Garden Lakes Elementary on the bus.

That accident remains under investigation.
